Defiantly would say a hard NO to drinking straight urine, your body actually uses up more water then it takes in because it has to work so hard to fight and filter off that small percentage of waste products in your urine, like nitrogen, potassium, calcium, sodium, and undigested alcohols.

But also….YES you can, Just extract that Wonderfull water from it first!

If in a situation where you are not around any water sources, or greenery (which you can capture the precipitation water from) and you HAVE to drink urine, hopefully you either have on hand or can forage for these items to make a solar still. So lets dig in (literally)!

ITEMS NEEDED

  • Transparent plastic
  • Container
  • drinking tube ( optional )
  • Everything else is from nature. (Stones, branches or leaves(optional))
  1. Find a spot that is ideally in the sun all day. Dig a big enough hole, in relation to the size of plastic and the container you have.
  2. If you can access green foliage, line the inside of the hole with it, it will help with added moisture. urinate around the inside of the hole, along the walls and greenery
  3. Place your container in bottom of hole. And if you have a drinking straw place it in the container and out the edge of the hole.
  4. Cover entire hole with your plastic sheet,
  5. place one stone at all 4 sides of sheet edge to anchor sheet down, you can now place rocks, dirt or sand around circumference to hold down entire plastic. Make sure the sheet is secure and is not drooping down into the hole.
  6. Place a perfect sized rock (you might have to try out a few) in the centre of the plastic top. Having the plastic at a 45 degree angle is best, and make sure the rock is placed right above the container opening. The cone will point right into the cup, and all the water condensation will drip down along the sides of the plastic and right in.

Now you wait, It may take a while for the sun to heat up the saturated soil around the still, and in turn, creates moisture which saturates the undersides of the plastic. The condensed moisture then drips slowly down the angled sides of the plastic (thanks to the rock), down to the lowest tip and down into to the container.

Drink straight from your straw, or disassemble your solar sill and enjoy from the container!

I did one here, you can see the condensation. It started almost instantly when the sun was out beating hot. Becuse you are pulling the moisture from the ground, foliage and urine. I mean your not going to be living in lux on this amount of water, but it should help you out when needed. My brave son who drank his brothers urine water said “it tastes pretty good!”
