“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul”
~ John Muir
OUR PROGRAMS
Academy in the Wild has intentionally small program sizes. where all children are known and heard. This allows us to remain flexible and be responsive to the interests and needs of each individual child.
COYOTES
AGES 3-8
“At the end of the day your feet should be dirty, your hair messy, and your eyes to be sparkling.”
~ Shanti
We provide a safe and nurturing environment for these early learners to connect with themselves, each other, and the Earth. The Coyote sessions are child-led. Meaning these wildlings have the opportunity to freely observe, create, run, climb, and learn in nature as they feel inspired!
Each day will unfold differently as the children’s interests and curiosities unfold. A few activities that they may feel inspired to do might be, water/mud play, snow tunnels, nature crafts, building fires and fire cooking, climbing on logs and trees, using tools, work together to build dens, tracking animals from prints, source clay and make tree creatures, become wild detectives and go on mini beast hunts, jumping from puddle to puddle after rain looking for surfaced worms, making fairy/goblin houses and bark boats… truly the options are endless when it comes to these inquisitive beautiful little humans!
We use story telling, books, songs, sit spots, and games to further or even spark curiosities and deepen a lasting connection to the wild earth.
We hope to see your wildlings in the Coyotes soon!

RATTLERS
AGES 7-12
“The more risks you allow your children to take the more they will learn to take care of themselves”
~ Roald Dahl
Calling all 7-12 year old’s…. we’d love to have you join our Rattlers for some activities in the trees! The majority of this session will be true to the forest school ethos and be child-led, allowing these wildlings to play, explore, and discover their curiosities, interests and passions as they unfold throughout the day.
Things that our rattlers may feel inspired to do as the day unfolds could be animal tracking, hiking and exploring, creating mini villages, building bird feeders, play games, climbing, den building, bark boats, creating art in nature, mud and water play.
We also provide our Rattlers with the opportunity to learn new skills, among which might be fire starting without matches, building survival shelters, making emergency stretchers, foraging, learn to camouflage, intro to knife safety and whittling, make natural adhesives, and of course a favourite… fire cooking! All aimed to help these wildlings build confidence, problem solving skills, and strengthen their mental resilience.
Using stories, art, books, and “sit spots” to further their connection with the land and learnings as we see fit.
Even on the hottest, snowiest, and rainiest of days, our coulee is a magical place filled with wonderful things to discover so we hope to see your rattlers soon to grow wild!

FALCONS
AGES 11-15
“Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better”
~ Albert Einstein
If you have ever wanted to whittle your own spoon, cook killer fire foods, or start a fire without matches, then this might be the session for you!
Our Falcons are given the the opportunity to play, explore, observe, hike, slow down to truly connect and learn from the natural world.
During the program we will spend time growing our bushcraft and survival skills based on the interests of the group, things they might be interested in learning could be shelter building, fire lighting without matches, knife safety and whittling, natural navigation, knot tying, plant identification, tarpology, natural cordage, leaving no trace, foraging, life cycles, usages of sap, natural water filtering, wild cooking, animal track identification, learning about our local land…
Immersed in a safe, encouraging environment with ongoing interaction to our wild world, falcons have the opportunity to grow as individuals, building self confidence not through the worlds lens but from within.
In the end our goal is to get out, have fun and go where ever the wind takes us!
Be the first to know when these sessions open up!
