HOME SCHOOLERS LETS GET LOST!

While out “hiking” we become lost!!…oh no!….now what?

We will treat the day as if we are lost… constructing shelter, collecting and filtering water, starting a fire and foraging!

As we work together to complete tasks, we will be faced with unforeseen obstacles that will make the day of survival that much harder!

If time allows we will end the day gathering around the fire enjoying foraged tea and cooking bannock bread. And of course go over how to help prevent getting lost in the first place!

Topics Covered Include:
• Remote First Aid (one new skill)
• 5 C’s to packing
• Water Sources/Purification
• Emergency signalling
• Animal encounters
• Understanding priorities when encountering survival situations
• Fire Craft: How to make survival fires under extreme conditions and their importance in survival situations
• Shelter: How to build a survival shelter including choosing proper locations, using improvised materials, shelter types, and survival camping techniques
• Understanding and evaluating risk and hazards outdoors
• Introduction to survival foraging. Including learning a few wild edibles from our area.
