October 24

We dove right into working as a team to forage for dry, dead, and easily ignitable natural materials to start our fire and keep us warm on this chilly day! After reading a witchy story, we dove into creating our own magic potion! Then, we mixed up and fire-baked a pumpkin spice cake and apple cider. These wildlings did not hold back when it came to decorating—and then destroying, making soup, sawing, and carving—until there was nothing left of their pumpkins! We ended the day with a story from Matilda the Green Witch!

November 7

We started off the day working together to get the fire going, then dove right into making pizza dough, our hand-picked wild mint and lavender bath bombs, and lip balm! These wildlings couldn’t get enough playtime today! It was non-stop action—building a pallet fort, playing games on the hill, and enjoying the hammock and slackline! We finished the day by making doughnuts over the fire and reminiscing about each of our favorite parts of Forest School, thanking the forest, and giving the trees hugs.

We absolutely adored each one of these wildlings and loved spending time with them! Thank you all so much for letting us be a part of your fall memories. ❤️❤️

Previous Weeks

Our forest friends made a debut today! After discussions on hibernation and what animals do in the winter, your wildlings set up a tea party for their forest friends with hot chocolate. They then built dens and homes for their animals to winter in, finding old nests to use, using already-made structures, or trying their hand at building something new with sticks and leaf litter.

We ended the day playing Bear in the Den and having a leaf fight!

We started with discussions on how art is everywhere in nature. We then went on a hunt for shapes. We settled in with “Art in the Air” with hanging canvases, glitter tattoos, and making nail art!

We ended the day reading stories and using our dear ears, eagle eyes, and bear nose to sense the nature around us.

These Wildlings work so hard! They were determined to start their own fire using ferro rods!

After discussing what you need to start fires, we went on a foraging walk to create our own ‘bird’s nest’ for fire starting. We collected goldenrod, rosehips, and dandelion flowers to add to our cookie recipe, as well as mint to add to our hot chocolate.

After starting our fires, these Wildlings settled in for a day of making and eating frittoli (an Italian cookie recipe my Nonna always made) with sunflowers, foraged rosehips, and goldenrod!

We found a bird’s nest from spring and looked at it up close. The Wildlings ultimately decided to leave it in case the birds needed it again next spring ❤️. They took turns (more like every man for themselves!) on the slackline, then went to the fort where we spent the remainder of the day expanding and reinforcing it. We ended the day with a group storytelling session using animal finger puppets.

There’s always a lot of excitement when foraging and discovering all the goodies you can sample in the woods. After our foraging walk, where we learned about plants like licorice, goldenrod, wild rose, silverberry, and many others, we added our finds to the lemonade. We quickly settled in, with everyone doing what called to them. We ended the day with stories, group sharing, and, of course, by thanking the forest.

Resilience in the Rain!
We started the day searching for fairies in the forest and helping them turn summer into fall. While exploring nature up close, we learned about how each of us has our own “Spidey sense” superpower that we should listen to in order to stay safe.

After lots of exploring, playing, and making cattail swords, we returned to the fire pits to work hard and build a fire in the rain. We finished the day by making s’mores and roasting marshmallows.
