CAMP OVERVIEW
DAY 1 – HIKE UP!
“Into the wild I go, to lose my mind and find my soul!”
Experience nature up close with a day of hiking our diverse coulees. We’re letting our interests guide our feet as we learn local legends, animals, edible plants, and natural navigation along the way… adventure awaits!!
DAY 2 – KNIVES AND SHELTER
Ever wanted to sharpen your knife skills or learn how to build a survival shelter? Here is your chance! We’re whittling bows and arrows, spoons, mallets….. and tackling survival shelters as a team! (We start this day learning knife and tool safety)
DAY 3 – WILD WATER
We are setting sail to imaginations as we construct rafts, nature boats, fishing poles, and even pan for gold! A day at the river never sounded so good!
DAY 4 – PRIMATIVE ART
Get inspired by nature and learn to make art like it was 10,000BC!! Using primitive skills students will forage for materials needed to make paints, brushes, pencils and even an easel! They will get the opportunity to practice their primitive artistic skills with our own artist!
DAY 5 – SURVIVE THIS!
As we explore we will soon find ourselves lost, oh no!! Now what!? We will tackle the biggest concerns during survival….shelter, fire, find/filter/purify water, and what’s edible…. using only the nature around us in all scenarios. We will touch on signalling, remote first aid, wild animals and the importance of staying calm during survival! … Who knows what challenges the day may bring us…..
A TYPICAL DAY
While we have activities planned and a flow to each day, we also go off the children’s energy levels, moods, and interests to help guide the day
9:00 am – Drop-off, group conversations, story telling, games. Introduction to days on-goings
9:45 am – Days adventures begin
12:00 pm – Lunch (children snack anytime)
1:00 pm- Days adventures continue
2:15 pm – Group sharing of day, group story telling, games, ‘nature spotting’
3:00 pm – Pick up
‘Nature spotting’ is a time to grow a deeper personal awareness with nature, where we sit quietly by ourselves and focus our senses to absorb the nature around us, children may choose to write, draw, or just relax during this time. Some children find it strange to sit still at first but most come to love the peacefulness it allows that is hard to find in the busy world.
