CAMP OVERVIEW

This is an overview of our days, however the order will be dictated by weather and the children’s energy levels throughout the week.

THE HUT, ORIGINS UNKOWN
Adventure out to paths only reachable on foot to one of Lethbridge’s most unique places. Along the path we will learn how plants can be used to heal, soothe, create, and nourish. As we go on adventures, we will get to know the abundant beings all around us and begin to decipher the individuals amongst the “wall of green”. Together we’ll learn how to identify some native and invasive species and develop place-based relationships with plants as we create art and cook up foraged goods and wild-craft.

CAVES, MINES AND LOOK OUT!
We are travelling back in time as we head to locations that teach us our coulees history, some long forgotten yet still buried to this day! We will be challenged with calming our minds in a survival situation, reading the landscape, seeing what we can learn from observation and how elevation and seeing the bigger picture may help your chances of survival!

HIDDEN OASIS
Travel to one of our all time favourite locations that naturally inspires play and excitement. We will forage for natural materials then hone into our ancestors, using primitive skills to gather and filter materials, craft a wild clay vessel, and make inks!

BEAVERS, TURTLES AND MORE
Animals are incredible, they have walked the same paths and patterned their lives after their ancestors for hundreds of years (if not thousands). What can we learn from our local animals? We’re off to hang out in one of our most rich animal sighting locations. Watch closely, you may have to camouflage, get stealthy and learn to track…

SURVIVE THIS!
One of our most popular days among wildlings! As we are traveling we soon find that we have become lost!…now what? We must stay put until help arrives, but first we must make camp with the limited supplies we have! How will we make fire, build shelter and face unplanned challenges? Afterwards we head to our all time favourite muddy landscape to fulfill all our sensory and play needs…. And we may even spot some of our elusive wildlife here!

During the week we will be going over knife and tool safety, a skill they can use throughout the week. We ask that your child does not bring their own knives as we will be providing and supervising their use.

A TYPICAL DAY

While we have activities planned and a flow to each day, we also go off the children’s energy levels, moods, and interests to help guide the day

9:00 am – Drop-off, group conversations, story telling, games. Introduction to days on-goings
9:45 am – Days adventures begin
12:00 pm – Lunch (children snack anytime)
1:00 pm- Days adventures continue
2:15 pm – Group sharing of day, group story telling, games, ‘nature spotting’
3:00 pm – Pick up

‘Nature spotting’ is a time to grow a deeper personal awareness with nature, where we sit quietly by ourselves and focus our senses to absorb the nature around us, children may choose to write, draw, or just relax during this time. Some children find it strange to sit still at first but most come to love the peacefulness it allows that is hard to find in the busy world.
